Fontarome now offers
cooling agent WS- 23
(FEMA# 3804; CAS#
51115-67-4 ), which features a medicinal, menthol
odor and taste that fades
to a cooling sensation.
The company’s ethyl (Z)-4-heptenoate (FEMA# 3975;
CAS# 39924-27-1) possesses a pungent green apple or
vegetable odor/taste with sweet or musty tones and bitter
green apple or vegetable impressions.
Fontarome’s cis-6-nonenal (FEMA# 3580; CAS# 2277-
19-2) imparts a highly diffusive, melonlike and slightly
metallic odor, and a melon taste and seedy aftertaste.
LECO’s two-dimensional GC (GCxGC) represents a new tool for the identification and quantification of compounds in complex matrices. “By adding a second orthogonal separa- tion to the existing one-dimensional separation, GCxGC provides an increase in compound etectibility as well
as an enhancement in component resolution,” according
to the company. The Windows-based equipment runs
Chroma TOF software.
PFW’s Keflorol 90 (CAS# 63500-71-0) possesses a fresh,
intense, sweet, natural floral odor with muguet, rose oxide
and earthy nuances. At levels up to 20%, it is appropriate
for fragrance compositions such as muguet, rose and lily,
in which it imparts diffusion, richness, bloom and naturalness. The material has stability in soaps, shampoo, surface
cleaners, fabric softeners, detergents, antiperspirants,
deodorant sticks, alcoholic lotions and acid cleaners.

Symrise’s Limettol natural (FEMA# 3748) imparts a
lime, citrus, juicy peely, fresh, clean note and slight fruiti-
ness. At levels of 1–30 ppm, the material
is recommended for use in lime,
citrus, and apricot and other yellow
fruit flavors for foods.
The company also offers
triisobutyl dihydro dithiazine
10% natural (FEMA# 4107),
which has a burnt, roasted, crispy
bacon sensory profile. At levels of
100 ppb–20 ppm the material is
recommended for roasted meat and onion flavors.
Robertet’s poplar buds colorless is molecularly
distilled from the resinoid without added solvent. The
fruity-apricot material imparts floral-osmanthus, woody,
leathery, licorice-davana, prune and Peru balsam facets
and is intended for gourmand accords in fruity and floral
Treatt USA’s natural ginger Treattarome (Zingiber
officinalis) has been launched as part of the company’s
portfolio of ‘from the named food’ (FTNF) clear dis-
tillates created via a short-duration, low-temperature

It also has a strong, lemonlike aroma
and rooty, potatolike overtones. The
water-white distillate is appropriate for
application in clear alcoholic and non-
alcoholic beverages, juices and juice drinks.
While dosage suggestions vary, at 0.20% the material has
a strong ginger character.
The company’s spearmint Treattarome (Mentha
spicata) features a fresh, leafy green flavor and distinct
mojitolike top notes and presents a profile that is sweeter
than conventional spearmint oil. In applications, the
ingredient imparts fresh-crushed spearmint leaf facets
reminiscent of mojitos; it also has a refreshing candylike
character. The water-soluble, water-white distillate is suitable for clear beverage applications, juices, dairy drinks and
alcoholic beverages. At a level of 0.20%, it provides a strong
spearmint character with a fresh mojito top note, while a
dose of 0.0025% creates a cooler, more refreshing flavor.
BASF’s pyranol (CAS# 63500-71-0) imparts a mild,
fresh, soft floralcy reminiscent of muguet (lily of the
valley). The ingredient is highly stable and features a
high cis-isomer content. According to the supplier, the
material “improves the basic accord of per-
fume ingredients and harmonizes them
to give a nicely rounded finish.”
The company’s Lysmeral
Extra (CAS# 80- 54-6) rep-
resents an updated version
of the classic material. It
features less than 0.1%
but retains a “virtually identical” odor profile and perfor-
mance. As a result, the supplier considers Lysmeral Extra
a 1: 1 substitute for Lysmeral. The floral, powdery muguet
odor is radiant and has excellent substantivity in laundry
applications and those formulations containing surfactants.
