First Look: Berjé Opens New Facility
Berjé’s equipment is gathered into the center of the facility to maximize safety and cleanliness.
Berjé has moved into its new facility in Carteret, N.J., housing its plant and
storage facilities for its essential oils, extracts and aroma chemicals.
A dike system surrounds the tanks on the plant floor.
Throughout its 64-year history, Berjé has been
housed in New York’s SoHo, Long Island City and
Recently, the company relocated to Carteret,
N.J. While this process took only three days with a
minimum of business interruption, the relocation
overall was a multiyear project.
The result is a 235,000-sq-ft complex of conference centers, offices, research and quality control
laboratories, warehouse, and production facilities.
Housed on a 13-acre site, this enlarged facility and
central location enables the company to expand the
sale of its comprehensive range of more than 3,000
flavor and fragrance ingredients.
Berjé’s Carteret location is reinforced by additional warehouses in Los Angeles and Chicago,
supporting the company’s domestic and export
reach, comprising more than 60 countries.
The move coincides with upgrades in critical
production areas, increasing available tank capacity,
improved efficiencies in filtration systems, targeted
ventillation and a new foam fire suppression system.
Berjé’s quality control program and regulatory
units were similarly expanded in anticipation of
growth, and the increasing complexity and new
challenges the industry faces.
